Manager & Coaches

     Fran Riordan - Field Manager

Fran comes to the Fielders from the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League, where he served as field manager from 2004 to 2009. On July 26, 2009, he became the winningest manager in Frontier League history with his 413th win over 9 seasons in the league and finished with 435 career wins plus 3 league championships as a player/manager.

    Pete Pirman - Hitting Coach

Pete was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 1999 Major League Baseball Entry Draft. Pete and the Kalamazoo Kings went on to win the Frontier League Championship under manager Fran Riordan in 2005, and he was also named the Frontier League's Most Valuable Player in 2005

    Chris Mongiardo - Pitching Coach

Chris, a former Kent State ballplayer and graduate, served as manager for the Richmond Roosters of the Frontier League from 2003-2005. Chris brings a familiarity of the Northern League to the Fielders as he also spent time as the pitching coach for the Gary RailCats in the 2006 season, and then joined the Rockford RiverHawks the following year.

Pitchers

     Garry Bakker RHP

Bakker, a right handed pitcher comes to the Fielders with a 27-29 record.  Bakker played the ‘08-‘09 seasons with the Fargo-Morehead RedHawks where he finished with a 14-10 record and 142 strikeouts.  The right hander played college ball for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.  In 2004, he was an 11th round selection of the Chicago White Sox where he advanced to the organizations High-A team.

    Ryan Bicondoa RHP

Bicondoa comes to the Fielders after a 2008-2009 stint with Southern Maryland where he went 24-14 in 55 starts. He struck out 89 batters and gave up 85 earned runs to close out the season with a 4..66 ERA.

    John Brownell RHP

After a 2006 stint in the New York-Penn League with the Phillies organization, Brownell moved to the Frontier League the following year.  Brownell joined the Kalamazoo Kings midway through the 2007 campaign and played there through 2009. In those three seasons he went 26-11 with a 3.61 ERA and a total of 237 strikeouts in 309 innings pitched.

  Ryan Falcon LHP

Falcon comes to the Fielders after 4 seasons in the Texas Ranger affiliate organizations, playing for the Spokane Indians, Bakersfield Blaze, and most recently, the Frisco RoughRiders.  As a left-handed relief pitcher, Falcon has an overall winning record of 13-6. In his 2007 season with the Spokane Indians, Falcon posted a 5-2 record with a 2.68 ERA, striking out 62 and walking just 6.

Roberto Feliciano LHP

Roberto Feliciano, a left-handed pitcher out of Ponce, Puerto Rico was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008. During his 2008 season, Feliciano pitched in 13 games for the Gulf Coast League Dodgers posting a 2-0 record with a 3.10 ERA. The lefty started the 2009 season with the Arizona Dodgers before being moved up to the Class-A affiliates, the Great Lakes Loons. In three seasons in the Dodgers farm league, Feliciano has a record of 3-2 and has given up 40 hits, 17 runs (13 earned) and struck out 57.

  Marco Gonzalez RHP

Gonzalez played the 2009 season with the Shreveport-Bossier Captains. In 2008, Gonzalez went 8-0 with two saves and 3.59 ERA in 47 appearances with Double-A Springfield of the Texas League. Gonzalez, a relief pitcher played 11 games with Palm beach, posting a 2-1 record with a 1.23 record.

    Chris Homer RHP

In 2003, Homer was drafted into the Detroit Tigers farm system.  In 2006 he advanced as high as the club’s Double-A team, the Erie SeaWolves.  He played the ’09 season with the Winnipeg Goldeyes where he went 2-3 with a 4.83 ERA.  Homer played collegiately and graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Justin Jordan RHP

Jordan, a right-handed pitcher out of Nashville, TN played collegiately for Belmont University from 2002 to 2005. In his collegiate career, Jordan posted an overall 14-11 record, pitching 199.1 total innings with 109 strikeouts and 37 walks.  From 2005 to 2007, Jordan played within the Seattle Mariners farm system, advancing as high as their advanced-A team where he started in 14 games posting a 5-7 record. In 2008 Jordan pitched for the Independent League Evansville Otters in 2008, where he was 5-5 before being traded to the Schaumburg Flyers. He posted a 2-3 record with 30 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched for the Flyers.

    Alec Lewis RHP

Lewis played for the Coe College Kohawks from 2007-2010 and is the school's career leader in appearances (57), innings pitched (290 1/3), pitching wins (24), and strikeouts (249). In 2010, he was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-American Second Team, leading the Kohawks going 11-0, with a 3.42 ERA, 91 strikeouts, eight complete games, four shutouts, and one save in 94 2/3 innings, setting single-season school records for innings pitched, wins, and strikeouts. He led the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in innings pitched wins and strikeouts and ranked third nationally in victories and 10th in strikeouts.

    Chad Lundahl  RHP

Lundahl signed with the Atlanta Braves organization in 2006 after attending the Unversity of California-Irvine. While Lundahl has been mostly an infielder in his four seasons in the Atlanta system, he will be playing for the Fielders as a relief pitcher. In 15 games in 2010 before being acquired by the Fielders, Lundahl was 3-2 with a 2.45 ERA in 18.1 IP, striking out 22 while walking only five.

  Garrett Sherrill RHP

Sherrill will make his Northern League debut with the Fielders in 2010.  A former draft choice of the Brewers, Sherrill spent the ’09 season with the Single-A, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers where he went 1-0.  With a 5.06 ERA, Sherrill has 55 strike outs in only 46.2 innings pitched in two minor league seasons.

  David Wasylak RHP

Wasylak was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 26th round of the 2006 amateur entry draft. In four minor league seasons, he is 4-5, with five saves and a 5.55 ERA in 82 games pitched. He played 2009 for the American Defenders of New Hampshire (Canadian-American Association) and the Grand Prairie AirHogs (American Association). In 2010, before joining the Fielders, Wasylak pitched for the Pittsfield Colonials (CAMA).

Infielders 

 Kevin Haas - SS

Haas, a graduate of the University of Akron, earned a spot on the second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV spot in his 2009 season with the Zips. In 2009, Haas was the only Zip to play in all 52 games of the season, leading the team in hits, runs, and doubles. He posted a .324 average in his 2009 season with 73 hits, 16 of which were doubles and nine were home runs. He ranked seventh in the MAC as the "toughest to strike out" going down just once every 8.3 at bats. 

    Kyle Higgins SS

Higgins, a rookie infielder, comes the Fielders after playing the ’09 season with the Kalamazoo Kings.  In 2008, he was drafted into the Texas Rangers farm system where he played for the Rangers of the Arizona Rookie League, then advanced to the Short-Season class-A Spokane Indians.  In his combined two minor league seasons he has a .241 batting average with 43 RBIs and 22 stolen bases.

    Guillermo Martinez SS/2B

Martinez was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Windy City Thunderbolts (Frontier League). After attending the University of South Alabama, he was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 15th round of the 2006 amateur entry draft, after which he reached the High-A level Jupiter Hammerheads in 2008. Playing 83 games for the Thunderbolts in 2009, Martinez hit .304, had a .380 OBP, scored 59 runs and stole 28 bases.

    Amos Ramon - 3B

Ramon began his professional playing career with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern League.  He then moved to the Frontier League, spending time with both the Windy City Thunderbolts and Kalamazoo Kings.  In his past four seasons, Ramon has an overall batting average of .302 and 88 RBIs.  Last season, Ramon played 3rd base for the Kings where he had a fielding percentage of .937.

Outfielders

    Jeff Dunbar Utility

After being drafted by the Mariners, Dunbar spent a year with the Short-Season class-A Everett AquaSox.  In 2009 Dunbar played with the Schaumburg Flyers where he had a batting average of .286 and 44 RBIs. As a utility player, Dunbar has pitched 36 career minor league games with a 4.37 ERA and 38 strikeouts.  During the ‘09 season, Dunbar pitched, caught, played outfield, 3rd base and 1st base with 361 combined putouts.

    Adam Hale OF

Hale came to the Fielders in a mid-season trade with the San Angelo Colts of United League Baseball. After transferring from Rice University to Texas A&M University, Hale was drafted by the Houston Astros as a pitcher in the 32nd round of the 2006 amateur entry draft. Hale spent the last two seasons in independent baseball, hitting .257 with 23 home runs and 85 RBI in 160 games over the course of two seasons.

     Brian McFall - 1B/OF

McFall, who has spent his entire career in the Kansas City Royals minor league system, comes to the Fielders from the NW Arkansas Naturals, of the AA Texas League.  In 59 games last year, he hit .250 with seven home runs and 37 RBI.  He was drafted in the third round (72nd overall) by the Royals in the 2003 amateur draft.

    Joshua Short OF

Short, like many inaugural year Fielders players, joins his 2009 skipper, Riordan, from the Kalamazoo Kings where he had a .360 batting average and 9 home runs.  As an outfielder for the Kings, Short had a .966 fielding percentage and 80 putouts. Short was drafted into the Florida Marlines farm system in 2005.

    Cody Strait OF

Strait split the 2009 season playing for NW Arkansas and Montgomery, double A affiliates for the Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays. In six seasons in the minor leagues, Strait has an overall batting average of .255 and has driven in 340 runs. Strait hit four homeruns with NW Arkansas in 2009.

    Juan Valdes CF

Valdes was drafted out of Fernando callejo High School (PR) by the Cleveland Indians in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2003 amateur entry draft and reached the AA level witht the Akron Aeros of the Eastern League. In 2008, for the Cleveland organization, Valdes hit .251 with a .357 OBP in 55 games.

Catchers

     Anthony Esquer - C

Esquer played the 2009 season with the Northern League Gary SouthShore RailCats.  Esquer has an overall batting average of .270 and 75 RBIs.  As a catcher, Esquer has a fielding percentage of .985 and 1,263 putouts.  He was drafted into the Cincinnati Reds farm system in the 24th round of the 2006 amateur entry draft.

    Zach Larson - C

After attending San Diego Mesa College, Larson played the 2008 and 2009 seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization, reaching the single-A Kannapolis Intimidators. In two minor league seasons prior to 2010, he has hit .210 with 44 hits and 20 runs scored.
